Curtis is first seen in a survivor camp and kicks Dr. Niels Sørenson while he is sleeping with a shotgun in his hand. Curtis that the sleeping bag he is using for a week is infected as someone died of the virus two hours before Niels arrived. Curtis wonders why he isn't sick and Niels then asks the same thing given that Curtis is still alive. Curtis takes Niels to hear Kevin MacDowell preaching to a group of Immunes in Port St. Lucie. As Curtis cheers for MacDowell he explains to Niels that there are others around the country like him acting like missionaries to spread their message across the country. After Curtis hears from MacDowell that a navy ship came home with the cure, Curtis suggests it might just be a rumor before Niels Sørenson confirms it is real and asks what they plan to do about it. (“It's Not a Rumor”)
Curtis drives a boat with MacDowell and Niels onboard while Niels asks MacDowell some questions where they are going. When Niels says he was right about the hospital ship he told them about, Curtis reveals they found it but it wasn't good news. After MacDowell explains that on the way to the hospital ship they also ran into a US Navy ship that ambushed them, Niels reveals that they are the ones with the cure. Curtis later watches the Achilles rise from the ocean so Niels can board it. (“Solace”)

Curtis collects everyone's phones and questions MacDowell on why they can't just toss them and MacDowell explains the Nathan James will be tracking them and calls Curtis an idiot. Curtis tells MacDowell that everything is ready but could only get nine US Navy uniforms in Memphis and Curtis drives a truck with MacDowell next to him. When they arrive in Memphis, MacDowell instructs Curtis to infect everyone who shows up and to chase them out so they infect everyone they contact and spread news that the Navy didn't bring a cure.
Curtis and MacDowell stroll into the courtyard and make their announcement and leave. Curtis tells MacDowell he can't raise any of their men at the gate and the Navy must've got here early. They are then ambushed with most of MacDowell's men captured or killed while Curtis manages to escape. Everyone in Memphis, including the infected they brought are cured and the Immune Army is disbanded. In revenge Curtis tracks down the one who made the cure at her hotel room: Dr. Rachel Scott. Curtis gets close to her and says "sic semper tyrannis" before shooting her in the chest and fleeing the scene. (“A More Perfect Union”)

It is revealed Curtis was eventually arrested and given a military tribunal for Dr. Scott's murder with the record sealed. Jacob Barnes visits him in prison under the guise of being his attorney to get his side of the story, specifically his interactions with US President Jeffrey Michener. Curtis reveals that Michener didn't know he was the president when they met and was moaning about how bringing his infected son into a safe zone in a stadium resulted in the deaths of everyone there. (“In the Dark”)
