Elaeis Virilis is a rare and ancient African palm seed that is the only plant alive today with proven immunity to the effects of the Red Rust. These particular seeds were the key to countering the effects of the famine. They were being hoarded by hostile forces and used as part of a grisly experiment by the Vellek Family. The crew of the Nathan James sought to recover the seeds to find a solution to ending the plague by engineering the seed's immunity into current crops.
In "Endgame," the crew is able to recover the remaining seeds along with plants and bugs cured by Dr. Paul Vellek with which they can spread the cure in half of the time it took the Red Rust to spread.
