Lucas Slattery is the son of Mike Slattery, the Executive Officer (XO) of the Nathan James.

Slattery hears from his wife Christine that Lucas died while he was in the Arctic from the Red Flu. (“Phase Six”)
When Slattery drinks some Nostros drugs, he starts hallucinating memories of his family, including Lucas. Among the memories are when Lucas gives Slattery a story he drew about a sailor on a U.S. Navy ship, makes badge for him, and when Lucas overhears Slattery is leaving for the Arctic and runs away. Lucas climbs a tree and Slattery talks him down promising to make tapes of him reading bedtime stories before he deploys and Lucas and play one every day. Lucas offers to make Slattery recordings for him too. Lucas jumps from the tree with Slattery promisnig to catch him. (“Nostos”)
Slattery is still suffering the after effects of the Nostros drug, still seeing Lucas up that tree. (“Allegiance”)
