The Octopus is a fishing boat from Jamaica owned by Bertrise's older brother. There were fifty people on board the boat when they left a Red Flu contaminated Jamaica, however, Bertrise was the sole survivor after everyone on board, including her brother, became sick and died on board. Bertrise, who is naturally immune to the virus, was the only survivor by the time the ship was located by the Nathan James.
