Shirahama Ekei is a pirate fighting alongside Takehaya.
Biography[]
After the Red Flu outbreak, Ekei joined a crew of pirates run by a man calling himself Takehaya and raid ships owned by Chinese President Peng Wu. His fight against President Peng and the MSS is more personal since his brother was killed by Agent Lau Hu. Ekei and Takehaya eventually parted ways but Ekei remained Takehaya's loyal friend as he left to manage his own crew. Ekei and his pirate crew has several encounters with Captain Joseph Meylan and the crew of the Hayward and Ekei's crew gravely injured two of Hayward's crew at an unknown point.
Events of The Last Ship[]
Ekei's crew later salvages everything from a sunken Chinese Destroyer called the Sea Dragon after it is destroyed. Takehaya contacts Ekei to ask him to hand over a decoder they got so Takehaya and the Nathan James can hunt down and kill Peng Wu. Ekei agrees but only if they hand over a great deal of their food and Tom Chandler agrees to Ekei's terms. But after Ekei arrives and greets Takehaya, he doubles his price saying the first batch of food was only a finder's fee for finding the decoder. Takehaya talks to Ekei and when he mentions that Chandler's crew killed Lau Hu, Ekei backs out and honors the original deal, shaking Chandler's hand. Ekei and his crew are arrested when Meylan and the former crew of the Hayward take command of the Nathan James on orders supposedly from President Howard Oliver. When the Nathan James crew forcibly take control of their ship back, Ekei and his crew help by capturing CIC and the Hayward senior leadership. (“Scuttle”)
Ekei is present when Takehaya informs the Nathan James crew that he suspects Peng of heading to Japan to destroy priceless documents and artifacts of Japan's history and culture. Ekei is assigned with a team to work with the team sent to take over the Henan and holds a knife to a Chinese officer's throat to force him to enter the passcode into the CIC room, allowing them to cut off Peng's backup and Peng is successfully killed.
