The Last Ship is a V series that premiered on June 22, 2014 on TNT[1]. It is based on the novel of the same name by William Brinkley. The show is five seasons long.

Overview[]

After a pandemic kills 80% of the world's population, the crew of an unaffected U.S. Navy ship must try to find a cure to save humanity.

Production[]

The series is produced by Platinum Dunes along with Michael Bay, Brad Fuller, Andrew Form, and Steinberg. On July 2012, TNT ordered a pilot episode for a potential series based on the novel The Last Ship by William Brinkley. Hank Steinberg and Steven Kane wrote the pilot script and the plot was filmed shortly after, directed by Jonathan Mostow. It was filmed across San Diego, including aboard the USS Halsey (DDG-97) and the USS Dewey (DDG-105), which stands in for the show's fictional USS Nathan James (DDG-151). Some scenes were filmed aboard the USS Iowa museum ship which is located in Los Angeles.

Reception[]

The show has received mostly positive reviews from critics, having a Metacritic score of 60 out of 100 based on 21 "positive or average" reviews. Rotten Tomatoes currently reports a 63% "fresh" critics rating with an average rating of 6/10 based on 27 reviews.
